Since no system in the present technological society is ideal, any production and consumption patterns without waste generation are de facto not possible. Waste generation due to rapid industrial development, urbanisation, modern agricultural practices and global mini revolutions that have taken place in the past few decades in diverse sectors have taken its toll by causing environmental pollution.

While the air, soil and water pollution is on the rise across the world, raw materials and global energy resources used for the production of finished goods are becoming more and more scarce and expensive. This has led siu global issues like climate change, ozone depletion, etc. This lost resource could potentially be recovered from the wastes using suitable strategies and technologies. Siu of concepts similar to this work will ultimately reduce the demand for natural resources thereby extending its sustenance.

The centre is conducting research in 3 broad areas viz. Environmental Impact Assessment EIA and efficiency of biogas plants in PMC region; training and awareness; etc. The Centre also has the capacity to develop insights in diverse sectors of industry, economy and society which will deal with the waste generation and its management.
